Female Student at UIN Suska Attacked by Friend on Campus Before Thesis Defence
A female student at the Sultan Syarif Kasim Islamic University (UIN Suska), Faradila (23), was attacked by her classmate, identified only by the initials R (21), on campus before her thesis defence.
The Head of Public Relations at the Riau Police, Commissioner Pandra Zahwani Arsyad, explained that the attack occurred on Thursday (26th February) morning at around 08:30. He stated that the victim, who was already on campus, was preparing for her thesis proposal defence.
“It is true that the incident occurred on Thursday, 26th March 2026, at around 08:30. The victim is a female student named Farah, approximately 23 years old, from UIN Suska,” he said to reporters.
Pandra said that the male perpetrator, who knew the victim, came to campus with the intention of harming her. He added that the perpetrator had also brought a machete to campus.
Afterwards, Pandra said that the perpetrator immediately searched for and attacked the victim. As a result of the attack, the victim suffered three cuts and stab wounds to the head, back, and arm.
“The perpetrator, R, brought a machete, a sharp weapon, and immediately approached the victim, Farah,” he said.
“The attack resulted in the victim suffering wounds to the head, back, and arm,” he added.
After the incident, he said that the university immediately contacted the Bina Widya Police through the 110 call centre. Afterwards, Pandra said that officers immediately went to the location and arrested the perpetrator, R.
“The campus contacted the 110 call centre, and the police responded quickly and, most importantly, secured the victim and took her to Bhayangkara Hospital in Pekanbaru,” he said.
Furthermore, Pandra said that preliminary investigations revealed that the perpetrator carried out the attack because he harboured resentment towards the victim.
“The motive is that they had a close relationship, it seems. There was a feeling of resentment or grudge,” he said.
He added that the perpetrator has been taken to the Bina Widya Police for legal proceedings. For his actions, Pandra said that the perpetrator will be charged under Article 469 of the Criminal Code Number 1 of 2023 regarding assault.
“With a maximum prison sentence of up to 12 years,” he concluded.
