The commitment of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to promoting the role of women on the international stage has been reaffirmed. This time, the focus is on strengthening the position of Female Police Officers (Polwan) in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions.

The issue emerged during a meeting between Polri officials and a delegation from the United Nations Police Division, led by Faisal Shahkar, at Polri Headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, 20 April 2026.

In the forum, Faisal emphasised the importance of increasing women’s representation in global peacekeeping missions, including in strategic positions.

“We are encouraging increased representation of women, including in senior leadership positions within UN missions. Indonesia has great potential to contribute further in this regard,” he stated.

He also conveyed that his side is opening wider opportunities for developing Polwan’s capacity through various international programmes, including leadership training.

On the other hand, Deputy Chief of Police Dedi Prasetyo affirmed that Polri continues to provide equal opportunities for Polwan to perform, not only in support functions but also in operational roles up to leadership at the global level.

“Polri is committed to continuously enhancing the role of Polwan in international missions, including through capacity building, equal access, and opportunities to occupy strategic positions at the global level,” said the Deputy Chief of Police.

One concrete example is the assignment of AKP Fajar Yuliyanto as a Gender-Based Violence Adviser in the UNISFA mission. This role is crucial in addressing gender-based violence and protecting vulnerable groups in conflict areas.

Currently, Polri’s contributions to global peacekeeping missions are also being strengthened. Hundreds of personnel have been deployed to various conflict zones, including the MINUSCA mission in the Central African Republic, as well as other missions such as UNMISS in South Sudan, MONUSCO in the Democratic Republic of Congo, UNFICYP in Cyprus, and UNISFA in Abyei.

In addition, Polri is actively expanding its global network through involvement in the International Association of Women Police, an international organisation focused on enhancing the capacity and professionalism of female police officers.

Indeed, Indonesia is scheduled to host the IAWP 2026 conference in Bali. This momentum is considered strategic for strengthening the position of Indonesian Polwan on the world stage.
