Female Boarding School Student Abandons Newborn Behind Islamic School in Mamuju After Boyfriend Marries Another Woman
A female Islamic boarding school student identified by the initials HS (18) in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi, abandoned her newborn baby — the result of a relationship with her boyfriend, identified as IT (20). The perpetrator reportedly felt abandoned after her boyfriend married another woman upon discovering she was pregnant.
"The motive was that the baby was born out of wedlock, and the woman also felt she was left to struggle on her own," said Mamuju Police Public Relations Head Inspector Herman Basir on Friday (20/2/2026).
Herman stated that HS had been in a relationship with IT and had engaged in sexual intercourse, resulting in HS falling pregnant in May 2025.
"The woman discovered she was pregnant in May last year," he said.
HS was left feeling betrayed after IT married another woman at the end of 2025. She subsequently continued to conceal her pregnancy from her family and her fellow students at the pesantren.
"She was firstly ashamed in front of her family, and then in front of her friends," he explained.
