The BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest for this year was officially opened on 7 May 2026. This competition marks the practical implementation stage of innovative cooperation between China and Indonesia under the BRICS Partnership for the New Industrial Revolution framework.
This year’s competition is themed ‘Innovation and Development in BRICS: Accelerating the New Industrial Revolution’, focusing on four main development areas in Indonesia: artificial intelligence (AI), green industry, low altitude technology, and energy electronics. The competition attracted nearly 100 projects from Indonesia.
After initial screening, 52 outstanding teams advanced to the direct presentation stage. Winning projects will directly proceed to the global final in Xiamen.
The competition is organised by the International Economic and Technological Cooperation Centre of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and implemented by China-DATANG Corporation Overseas Investment Co., Ltd.
The competition also receives full support from Indonesian ministries such as the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Ministry of Industry, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), as well as the Indonesian Chinese Association (INTI), China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, and General Technology BRICS (Xiamen) Investment Development Co., Ltd.
According to a written statement on Saturday (9/5/2026), Jia Bingjun, Director of the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Limited, stated that Indonesia is a key overseas development country for China Datang Corporation.
In the future, the company will continue to increase the scale of investments in Indonesia, create more job opportunities for local communities, and train more professionals in the energy sector.
Through this competition, China Datang hopes to use the event as a bridge to connect innovative resources from China and Indonesia, help Indonesian innovation projects access capital, technology, and international markets, jointly promote the development of industrial innovation in both countries, and support the construction of the BRICS Partnership for the New Industrial Revolution.
Cahyo Purnomo, Director of Regional Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Industrial Downstreaming (BKPM), stated that Indonesia is in a key stage to accelerate the new industrial revolution and greatly needs advanced technology and innovative concepts.
The four tracks of this competition are core areas that are currently priorities for Indonesia’s development. He hopes that through this competition, more outstanding local innovation projects can be unearthed, while attracting more technology and investment from China, jointly promoting the upgrading of Indonesia’s industries and supporting the realisation of the national vision of ‘Golden Indonesia 2045’.
The competition invites 10 leading experts from Indonesia and globally as judges, covering various fields such as cross-border investment, artificial intelligence, energy transition, low-altitude economy, and innovation incubation.
They will conduct professional evaluations of the participating projects from seven dimensions, including technological innovation, industrial implementation capability, and low-carbon green aspects, and ultimately select two outstanding projects from each track to be recommended to the Global Final in Xiamen.
The BRICS Industrial Innovation Competition is an important activity to implement the partnership, playing an active role in promoting practical cooperation among BRICS countries.
The successful opening of this competition signifies that Indonesia, as the first BRICS member from Southeast Asia, is deeply participating in global industrial governance with innovation as the focus.
