Feisal to meet ulemas

SURABAYA, East Java: Commander of the Armed Forces Gen. Feisal
Tanjung will meet with hundreds of ulemas at the Sunan Ampel
Grand Mosque tomorrow.

Mosque spokesman Saleh Aldjufri told Antara on Saturday that
the scheduled meeting is intended to establish closer ties
between the umara (power holders or rulers) and religious
scholars. It is also aimed at strengthening the roles of ulemas
in preserving stability and security, he said.

The general is expected to address the gathering, Saleh said,
and his speech "will become a guideline for the ulemas to promote
their roles in development". (swe)
