Feeling insecure

The Mandala Airlines airplane tragedy in September in Medan,
North Sumatra, has added to the list of deaths during the
administration of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Jusuf Kalla.

Death is a great event. But death as a result of somebody's
negligence or human error is murder.

The absence of the feeling of safety in the society can only
mean postponement of death. There is no guarantee of safety while
we are traveling. Train collisions, vehicular accidents, plane
crashes etc. can happen without any apparent reason.

Even at home we don't feel safe, as a feather of a bird might
blow over from our neighbors' house into our house, and thus we
are at risk of being infected with bird flu virus. In another
scenario, a bomb might explode in a crowd which more often than
not claims lives.

People do not feel secure, due to the inability of the
security forces to provide protection for the citizens at large.
When can we expect a change for the better?
