FEED for Abadi LNG Project Completed, FID Targeted for January 2027
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Japanese energy company Inpex completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the Abadi Masela liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in October 2026, ahead of the original schedule of the end of this year.
SKK Migas head Djoko Siswanto said the completion of FEED was an important step towards accelerating development of the Abadi Masela LNG project, which has an estimated investment value of around US$22 billion.
“Thank God, it was completed three months early, in October,” he said at a ceremony marking the completion of FEED for the Abadi Masela LNG project in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He hopes the project’s final investment decision (FID) can be reached by the end of 2026 or, at the latest, in January 2027.
Inpex Masela Ltd president director Kenji Hasegawa said completion of FEED was an important milestone in the project’s development.
“With FEED complete, we are now focusing on the next stages, namely moving towards the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) phase and FID,” Hasegawa said.
The Abadi Masela project is expected to have gas production capacity of 1,380 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), with planned LNG production of 9.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The project is also expected to supply 100 MMSCFD of piped gas for domestic needs and produce 35,000 barrels of condensate per day.
The strategic LNG project in the Masela Block, Tanimbar Islands, Maluku, entered the construction phase with a groundbreaking ceremony led by President Prabowo Subianto on 16 July 2026.
Gas production from the project is targeted to begin in 2030 to support national energy security.
