February 2026 Retail Sales Strengthen, Household Consumption Boosted by Ramadan
JAKARTA — National retail sales performance showed improvement in February 2026.
Bank Indonesia’s (BI) Retail Sales Survey recorded increases both annually and monthly, reflecting the strengthening of household consumption amid the Ramadan momentum.
In the central bank’s report, the Real Sales Index (RSI) for February 2026 was recorded at 232.7, or growing 6.5% year-on-year (yoy), higher than January 2026’s 5.7% (yoy) growth.
BI stated that this increase was driven by sales growth in the majority of goods groups, particularly the spare parts and accessories group, food, beverages, and tobacco group, as well as the clothing sub-group.
“The growth was supported by increases in sales in the majority of groups, particularly the Spare Parts and Accessories Group, Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group, as well as the Clothing Sub-group,” BI revealed in its report, quoted on Monday (13/4/2026).
In detail, the spare parts and accessories group recorded an index of 157.5 with 13.1% growth (yoy).
This rise aligns with increasing public demand ahead of Ramadan, which historically drives household consumption, especially for food needs and other consumer goods.
On a monthly basis, growth was also seen in several major groups. Spare parts and accessories sales increased 4.0% (month-to-month/mtm), food, beverages, and tobacco grew 4.9% (mtm), and the clothing sub-group rose 6.1% (mtm).
BI noted that this increase coincided with rising public demand during the Ramadan month.
In Banjarmasin, the sales index reached 115.8 with 15.0% growth (yoy). Jakarta recorded an index of 52.2 with 3.2% growth (yoy), while Surabaya recorded an index of 484.3 with 13.2% growth (yoy).
Conversely, several cities experienced declines, such as Medan with a 0.2% contraction (yoy), Bandung down 13.8% (yoy), and Makassar weakening 10.2% (yoy).
On a monthly basis, increases occurred in several cities such as Manado, Surabaya, and Bandung. Growth was recorded at 6.0% (mtm), 4.2% (mtm), and 6.9% (mtm) respectively, after previously experiencing quite deep contractions.
