Febrie Named Suspect in 3 Corruption Cases, PDIP Legislator: Execute Them If Possible

House of Representatives Commission III member from the PDIP faction, Nasyirul Falah Amru, known as Gus Falah, has strongly condemned the three corruption cases implicating former deputy attorney general for special crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. He described the cases as a shameful scandal. “Of course, the scandal in the process that has occurred and the naming of a suspect is something truly very embarrassing and deeply disappointing to the conscience of the entire Indonesian people,” Gus Falah said during a special meeting of House Commission III at the parliament building in Jakarta on Saturday. Gus Falah demanded that the suspects in the three corruption cases be tried with the maximum penalty. He even said the death penalty would be appropriate if they are proven to have committed corruption that harmed the public. “Therefore, I ask that the perpetrators, the suspects, be tried as severely as possible. If possible, sentenced to death. Why? Because this concerns the livelihoods of many people. Imagine, the PLN blackout due to the coal case, imagine the Krakatau Steel and ASABRI cases, this is truly disgusting. Especially when carried out by the law enforcement officers we love,” he said. Acting Jampidsus Rudi Margono received the transfer of three corruption cases from the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor). Margono stated that two suspects have been named, one from the private sector and one with the initial F. The three cases are alleged corruption in coal, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel. Police have searched a money changer and Cafe de’Clan Signature in the Cipete area of South Jakarta, as well as a house in the Bogor area of West Java. Police seized a number of pieces of evidence during the search, including gold bars and foreign currency worth billions of rupiah. Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, reiterated that the handling of these three corruption cases is to follow up on directives from President Prabowo Subianto. The National Police is committed to supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s national priorities in strengthening corruption eradication. He said the handling of the case is in line with the seventh Asta Cita in the government’s agenda, namely strengthening political, legal, and bureaucratic reform, as well as strengthening the prevention and eradication of corruption. He said the National Police is also part of the state apparatus carrying out national priorities. The case is being handled through a joint investigation between the Directorate of Corruption Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department and a joint team from the Metro Jaya Police.
