Febrie Adriansyah questions allegations of extortion
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General’s Office, Febrie Adriansyah, has questioned the reasons behind the allegations that he engaged in extortion during the handling of the PT ASABRI and/or Asuransi Jiwasraya cases.
Speaking to the media at the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office on Friday, Febrie stated that during his 33 years of service as a prosecutor, he had never been sanctioned by the Attorney General’s Office Oversight Division.
“I have never been investigated, nor have I ever been reported. Now, I am accused of extortion. You can verify this with the Oversight Division. I also spoke with my subordinates in Team 9; during my leadership, were they ever taught to engage in such acts?” he said.
Febrie noted that during his tenure as Jampidsus, many achievements were reached. Notably, while serving as the Executive Chairman of the Task Force for Forest Area Orderliness (PKH), he successfully helped save state finances amounting to hundreds of trillions of rupiah within a single year.
Despite his contributions to law enforcement, he expressed regret that he has been implicated in criminal activity.
“We took on all the major cases. But in the end, we are the ones being undermined,” he remarked.
Febrie also expressed hope that the judges would carefully examine the extortion case during the trial.
“I want the judges in court to be able to see clearly why this case has emerged,” he said.
Furthermore, Febrie warned that his office possesses data regarding the parties involved in major cases.
“Do not forget, the database in the Round Building (Jampidsus) will remain as permanent data. We all know who is involved in the major cases. And I am confident that my juniors, whom we have trained, will certainly have the courage for the sake of the nation and its people. That is what we have always instilled in the Round Building,” he added.
Febrie Adriansyah has been named a suspect in a case involving alleged corruption in the form of extortion and money laundering (TPPU) by a state official during the handling of the PT ASABRI and/or Asuransi Jiwasraya cases.
On Tuesday (15/9), the Coordinator of Team 9 and the Junior Attorney General for Oversight (Jamwas), Rudi Margono, stated that the case has been agreed upon as the predicate crime for the money laundering charges also involving Febrie.
The case has now been transferred by the Attorney General’s Office Team 9 to the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office for the preparation of the indictment prior to trial.
