Febrie Adriansyah Detained Without Suspect Vest, Hasto Highlights Disparity in Treatment

PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto has responded to the detention of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, who was not made to wear a suspect vest. He stated that all citizens have equal standing before the law, and therefore he believes there has been a disparity in the treatment of Febrie.

"Earlier we said in our remarks how citizens, who by the constitution have equal standing before the law, are in fact not equal before law enforcement," Hasto said following a theatrical event commemorating the Kudatuli incident at the PDIP DPP Office in Central Jakarta on Sunday, 26 July 2026.

Hasto also referred to his own experience when he was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission. He noted that at the time he remained obedient to the law by wearing an orange vest and being handcuffed. "I myself have experienced wearing an orange vest and being handcuffed. I complied, even though I knew it was part of a criminalisation resulting from a firm stance in addressing the 2024 General Election. I accepted it," he said.

Therefore, Hasto stressed that law enforcement officers must not apply differential treatment, even if the suspect is an official. "There must be no different treatment just because a legal official receives a privilege. This will accelerate that dissatisfaction," Hasto explained.

Furthermore, he also touched upon the events of 27 July 1996, known as Kudatuli. Hasto said the public supported the movement because at that time the law only sided with the elite. "Do not let that bitter experience happen again. And those extreme conditions showed that the law was truly unjust," he concluded.
