FEB UIN Jakarta targets AACSB accreditation towards 'Global Islamic Business School'
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta is finalising various preparations and governance measures to obtain international accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
Dean of FEB UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Professor Dr Ibnu Qizam, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that achieving the ‘Unggul’ (Excellent) rating nationally is not a stopping point, but rather a starting point for leaping towards far more competitive global standards.
‘We have established a strong institutional transformation vision to become a Global Islamic Business School. We are targeting the AACSB eligibility document preparation to be completed within the 2029–2030 period. To that end, quality improvements, discipline in supervision services, and standardisation of doctoral student research quality must be immediately implemented concretely,’ said Ibnu Qizam.
In this effort, a number of experts have been involved. One of them is Professor Sri Rahayu Hijrah Hati, a Professor and Head of the Postgraduate Management Science Programme at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (UI), who served as the main speaker to share academic governance practices.
The professor, affectionately known as Prof Cici, explained that the 2026 edition of the AACSB global accreditation instrument places greater emphasis on institutional authenticity and commitment to continuous improvement, rather than merely reporting administrative documents made to appear perfect.
‘AACSB assessors greatly appreciate institutional uniqueness. The dual regulatory constraints from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology at UIN Jakarta should actually be honestly narrated as part of the institution’s operational history. The most crucial point is how FEB UIN highlights its quality distinction, namely the integration of economic knowledge and Islamic values (Integration of Knowledge) which is concretely translated into the curriculum and graduate learning outcomes,’ said Cici.
In addition to academic breakthroughs, FEB UIN Jakarta has also agreed to overhaul supervision governance so that the hierarchical culture can quickly shift towards a collaborative partnership model (value co-creation).
To protect students’ educational rights from convoluted processes, the faculty is even prepared to impose temporary suspension (grounding) sanctions on supervising professors who are proven to be negligent or deliberately obstruct the academic supervision process.
As a final quality assurance measure, the programme now requires the implementation of a 15-minute closed commission meeting Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) before students are examined, in order to unify perceptions and voices among the examination team so that revision instructions do not contradict each other and confuse students.
