Feasibility Test for 23 BPK Candidates Completed, DPD RI Recommends 10 Names
Committee IV of the DPD RI has completed the fit and proper test for 23 candidates for the members of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK RI) for the 2026-2031 term. This process is an exercise of the DPD RI’s constitutional authority to provide considerations to the DPR RI prior to the election of BPK RI members.
This follows the mandate of Article 23F paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which stipulates that BPK members are elected by the DPR, taking into account the considerations of the DPD RI, and are inaugurated by the President. This provision is also reinforced by Law Number 17 of 2014 regarding the MPR, DPR, DPD, and DPRD, as well as Law Number 15 of 2006 regarding the Audit Board.
The fit and proper test was conducted during the Plenary Meeting of Committee IV of the DPD RI in Jakarta on 26-27 September 2026. Candidates took turns presenting papers, visions, and missions under the theme ‘Collaboration between BPK RI and DPD RI in Safeguarding Central and Regional Financial Transparency and Accountability’.
“Committee IV then conducted in-depth sessions through Q&A to assess the ideas, competence, experience, leadership, and commitment of each candidate,” stated the Chairman of Committee IV of the DPD RI, Ahmad Nawardi, in a statement on Tuesday (29/9/2026).
Nawardi explained that the process and stages of the fit and proper test for BPK RI member candidates involved assessments based on five aspects: understanding of the duties and functions of the BPK, understanding of the institutional relationship between BPK RI and DPD RI, integrity, vision and mission, as well as experience and leadership.
“All stages were carried out upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, objectivity, professionalism, and independence,” explained Nawardi.
Furthermore, Committee IV paid special attention to the candidates’ capacity to maintain the independence of BPK RI as a free and autonomous state institution in auditing the management and responsibility of state finances.
The in-depth assessment also covered the effectiveness of following up on audit recommendations, the quality of central and regional spending, the supervision of regional transfers and village funds, the management of regional-owned enterprises (BUMD), the strengthening of regional fiscal independence, risk-based auditing, and the use of technology to strengthen public financial accountability.
Based on the results of document reviews, presentations of papers, visions and missions, in-depth assessments, and evaluations of all candidates, the DPD RI will recommend 10 BPK RI member candidates to the DPR RI. These ten names have been compiled based on the highest assessment results to serve as considerations for the DPR RI in selecting 2 BPK members for the 2026-2031 term.
“We, the DPD RI as regional representatives, certainly hope that the DPR RI can take into account the considerations and recommendations we submit in selecting BPK RI members,” concluded Nawardi at the end of the activity.
