Fearful Thieves Dump Thai Tourists' Luggage into Bromo River
A group of tourists from Thailand had their luggage stolen in Bromo. Three perpetrators threw the evidence into a river.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 15 February 2026, in front of the Sukapura Museum, Wonotoro Village. Seven suitcases belonging to the group of tourists from Thailand were stolen in the vicinity of the tourist attraction.
As reported by detikJatim on Tuesday, 24 February, the victims then reported the incident to the police. As a result of the police investigation, a GPS signal from one of the victims’ electronic devices was tracked.
The GPS led to the house of a married couple, Edi Siswanto (46) and Novita Frasiska (45), in the Probolinggo area. The couple were no longer at their residence when the police arrived.
The police then raided the house of another perpetrator, Abdurohim, on Jalan Manggis, Probolinggo. An hour later, the police managed to arrest Edi and Novita.
The Chief of Police of Probolinggo, AKBP M Wahyudin Latif, explained that, based on the officers’ investigation, all the stolen items were thrown into the Pilang River, in the city of Probolinggo, to get rid of the evidence.
“After we conducted the search, all the stolen items were found to have been thrown into the river. Fortunately, some of them were found upstream before being carried away by the current to the sea. As for the electronic devices, they had all been destroyed and then thrown away,” said Wahyudin.
Wahyudin said that the perpetrators had not had time to sell the stolen goods because they were afraid of being hunted down by the police.
“None of the items were sold because the perpetrators were afraid after they realised that the mobile phone signal was leading to their house,” he said.
