F.E. Chicago Marathon staged

LABUAN, Banten: Seven marathon runners took part in the Far East Chicago Marathon here on Sunday. They were accompanied along the 42.2-kilometer route by support vehicles, as well as four 10k runners and five walkers, who were given a head start.

The marathon runners started at 2 a.m. and the walkers at midnight.

First past the finish line was Cipto in 3 hours 43 minutes and 31.22 seconds, followed by Sindhu 4:43:25.84, Chris 4:46:44.63, Ralph 4:58:13.86, Ayung 5:14:52.43 and Howard 5:18:02.72.

The walker finishers were Sanjaya in 9 hours and 2 minutes, Sudjana 9:04 and Utomo 9:10.

One marathoner dropped out of the race after 15 km, and two walkers also failed to finish.

The four 10k runners were not timed because they just tagged along to have fun.

The event was held to coincide with the U.S. Chicago Marathon, which was won by Kenyan Evans Rutto for a second consecutive time in 2:6:16. -- JP
