FDA recalls SkinnyDipped chocolate snacks over deadly allergen risk

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of popular chocolate snacks sold across the US following the discovery of potential undeclared allergens on the label, which could trigger severe allergic reactions or be life-threatening. The recall specifically targets SkinnyDipped Dark Chocolate Coconut Almond Bites, a low-sugar snack made of crispy coconut and almonds coated in dark chocolate, typically sold in resealable bags containing individually wrapped pieces. Bazzini, the manufacturer, initiated the voluntary recall after consumer reports revealed peanut butter contained in 10-count packages of the product despite no peanut allergen being listed on the label. Although no illness reports have been recorded, the FDA warns that individuals with peanut allergies could experience serious or fatal reactions if consuming the product. Peanuts are among the Big Nine major allergens required to be clearly declared under US law. Allergic reactions occur when the immune system misidentifies food proteins as threats, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. In extreme cases, reactions can escalate to anaphylaxis, a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment. Consumers who purchased SkinnyDipped Dark Chocolate Coconut Almond Bites are advised to take appropriate action. The manufacturer confirmed that only specific lots of the product are affected by this recall.
