FDA approves Ciba plant

BASLE, Switzerland (Reuter): Ciba-Geigy AG said the U.S. Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) had given its new contact lens
manufacturing plant in Batam, Indonesia manufacturing site
premarket approval.

Ciba said the plant, built on Batam, an island of the coast of
Singapore, began production of contact lenses in 1995. The plant
employs 500 people.
