FBI team arrives in Papua

JAKARTA: A U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team
arrived in Timika, Papua on Sunday afternoon in order to
investigate last year's ambush that resulted in the death of two
American teachers and an Indonesian.

The team of seven members was accompanied by an Indonesian.
They were identified as Roger Tamberlin, Robert Deardorff, Bloes
Tara, Barney Johnson, John Pattariri, Nancy Wong and Edward M.

On Monday morning the team is scheduled to visit Timika police
station. It was not clear whether the team planned to visit the
scene of the killing or to meet witnesses.

The FBI is investigating the ambush, which occurred close to a
mine operated by U.S.-based mining company PT Freeport Indonesia.
Former deputy chief of Papua Police, Brig. Gen. Raziman Tarigan
has alleged possible involvement of Kopassus (Indonesian Military
special forces) in the incident. --JP
