Fauna Land Ancol Appointed as New Operator of Bandung Zoo

The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has officially appointed PT Fauna Land Ancol as the new operator of Bandung Zoo (Bandung Zoo) after a selection process conducted openly, professionally, and accountably. This appointment marks a step to ensure the sustainability of Bandung Zoo as a conservation institution, an environmental education facility, a family recreational space, and a public asset with historical and social value for the people of Bandung. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan expressed appreciation to the Selection Committee for carrying out all stages meticulously and professionally. Farhan also thanked the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry for its continued support, guidance, and attention to the conservation function of Bandung Zoo during the management restructuring process. “We express our appreciation to the Selection Committee, who worked professionally and with great care. We also thank the Ministry of Forestry for its ongoing support and guidance, ensuring this process ran smoothly while keeping the conservation function as the main priority,” Farhan said on Wednesday (10/6/2026). According to Farhan, the Bandung City Government placed conservation functions, animal welfare, and public interest as the primary considerations in the selection process. “For the Bandung City Government, the success of managing Bandung Zoo is measured not only by visitor numbers but also by the quality of conservation, animal welfare, educational quality, and the benefits provided to the community. Therefore, we hope the new operator can deliver increasingly better and more responsible management standards,” Farhan stated. With the new operator appointed, a transition period will soon begin to prepare for area revitalisation, strengthening conservation functions, improving animal welfare, and preparing for the reopening of Bandung Zoo to the public. The Bandung City Government also ensured that this cooperation provides long-term benefits for the city. In addition to strengthening conservation functions and public services, the new operator is committed to revitalising the area, developing facilities, and making investments that support the future operational sustainability of Bandung Zoo. The completed selection process also yielded a cooperation value that provides optimal benefits for the Bandung City Government as the asset owner, while ensuring the necessary investment support to restore the area’s quality, strengthen conservation functions, and improve public services. “The most important thing for us is securing the future of Bandung Zoo. We want to see this area come back to life, its animals more prosperous, its conservation function stronger, and its benefits greater for the people of Bandung,” Farhan said. Farhan added that the Bandung City Government will continue to oversee the transition process to ensure it proceeds according to regulations and that all commitments regarding conservation, animal welfare, public services, and regional asset utilisation are realised concretely. The appointment of the new operator is part of the Bandung City Government’s efforts to ensure public assets are managed professionally, sustainably, and provide optimal benefits to the community without diminishing their primary function as conservation institutions.
