Faulty wiring killed regent

UJUNGPANDANG, S. Sulawesi: Police said yesterday that the death of Andi Saad Pasilong, the Polewali Mamasa Regency chief, at his official residence on Sunday was an accident.

Polewali Mamasa Police Chief Lt. Col. Djoko Subagio said Pasilong died of electrocution, which was caused by an overflow of voltage in the house.

A team from the local PLN office, the state electricity company, found irregularities in the electric wiring of the house. They include the absence of a ground wire and electric outlets which were installed by non-PLN staff, Djoko said.

It was believed Pasilong was electrocuted when he turned the hot water faucet on.

Police had earlier looked into the possibility of foul play. (31/09)
