Fauci adamantly refuses to explain COVID-19 at US Senate hearing

Washington (ANTARA) - Anthony Fauci, the former leading US infectious disease expert, refused to answer questions from US senators more than 100 times during a three-hour Senate committee hearing on Wednesday (29/7) concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.

As reported by The New York Times, Fauci exercised his right not to answer the US lawmakers’ questions under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution.

Fauci repeated his refusal more than 100 times. He even declined to tell Senator Rand Paul what day it was, what colour his tie was, or the colour of the carpet in front of him.

Paul, in turn, pledged that his committee would consider what steps to take against Fauci, as refusing to testify in a US congressional investigation is illegal.

In June, Tulsi Gabbard, before resigning from her post as Director of National Intelligence at the time, said she had released documents detailing various actions taken by Fauci, including matters related to the funding of research at a laboratory in Wuhan.

Fauci’s testimony hearing stemmed from a two-year investigation, after which, in December 2024, members of the US Congress concluded that the coronavirus most likely originated from a laboratory and spread as a result of a leak.

Former US President Joe Biden granted Fauci a pardon before the end of his term in office.
