Fauci adamantly refuses to explain COVID-19 at US Senate hearing

Washington (ANTARA) - Former leading United States infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci refused to answer questions from US senators more than 100 times during a three-hour Senate committee hearing on Wednesday (29/7) regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. As reported by The New York Times, Fauci invoked his right not to answer the lawmakers’ questions under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution. Fauci repeated his refusal over 100 times. He even declined to tell Senator Rand Paul what day it was, the colour of his tie, or the colour of the carpet in front of him. Paul, in turn, pledged that his committee would consider what steps to take against Fauci, as refusing to testify in a congressional investigation is illegal. In June, Tulsi Gabbard, before resigning from her position as Director of National Intelligence at the time, stated she had released documents detailing various actions by Fauci, including matters relating to research funding at a laboratory in Wuhan. Fauci’s testimony hearing followed a two-year investigation, in December 2024, where members of the US Congress stated that the coronavirus most likely originated from a laboratory and spread due to a leak. Former US president Joe Biden granted Fauci a pardon before his term ended.
