JAKARTA - The statue of Fatmawati sewing the flag in the middle of Taman Bendera Pusaka has become one of the spots frequently visited by the public on Wednesday (25/3/2026). The statue stands on a lake and is located next to a red bridge with a black barrier fence. As they cross the bridge, many visitors stop to view the statue, either to take photos or simply to lean on the fence and observe. Several children passing by were seen asking their parents about the figure depicted in the statue. However, there were also other children who appeared to already recognise the figure immortalised in the statue. Not only children, but several adults also admitted they did not know who the figure in the statue was. “I don’t know who that is, there’s no information either. There should be info about who the figure is,” said a visitor, Nur (33), when met at the location on Wednesday. Another visitor, Reni (45), expressed a similar view. She admitted knowing the figure of Fatmawati but believed an information board was still needed as an educational tool, especially for children. “There should be an explanatory board, written there perhaps (at the base of the statue). Who that is, what they’re doing,” she said. Reni came with her friends who each brought their children. The children took turns posing for photos in front of the statue. She also revealed that the opening of this park had long been awaited. She felt happy because the park has now reopened with better facilities. “Because it was closed for a very long time before, under renovation. Now it’s open, so it can become a holiday spot, especially for families,” she said.
