Father's sexual abuse of daughters prompts push for restitution claims
The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection emphasises the importance of restitution claims for victims in handling a case of alleged sexual violence by a biological father against his two daughters in Klaten Regency, Central Java. “The importance of restitution claims for victims as part of fulfilling their right to recovery,” said PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi in Jakarta on Sunday. The legal process for this case is currently handled by Klaten Police and remains under investigation. The case came to light after a relative of the victim discovered a diary entry detailing the sexual abuse experienced by the child. The relative reported the case to Klaten Police in May 2026. Following verification of the victim’s statements and evidence, the suspect has been detained and formally named as a suspect. He is alleged to have violated Article 418(1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code and provisions under Law No. 12 of 2022 on Sexual Violence Crimes (TPKS). The sexual abuse is believed to have occurred over an extended period across multiple locations. Both victims allegedly suffered sexual violence from a young age. The suspect is suspected to have used deceptive tactics under the guise of parental education and threatened physical violence to prevent the victims from disclosing the incidents to others.
