Father-Son Duo Steals 12 Motorcycles in Denpasar to Fund Online Gambling

A father and son in Denpasar worked together to steal motorcycles around the city. IGNA (44) and his son, AKP (24), successfully stole 12 motorcycles over three months.

Denpasar Barat Police Chief, Kompol Ni Wayan Adnyani Prabawati, explained that the duo employed a ‘ngetek’ method. This involves one person pretending to steer the stolen motorcycle while the other pushes it from behind using the exhaust of another motorcycle.

During their operations, the son was responsible for taking and steering the motorcycle, while IGNA pushed from behind. They targeted motorcycles in boarding houses and residential areas, specifically those without handlebar locks to make theft easier.

From their confessions, the suspects sold the stolen motorcycles through online marketplaces for prices ranging from Rp 10 million to Rp 15 million. Their actions were purely motivated by economic factors, and the profits were used for online gambling. However, police noted that neither suspect is a recidivist.

Police have secured two stolen motorcycles as evidence. The suspects are charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code on aggravated theft, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment.
