Police have disclosed the condition of the motorcyclist, the father of a tenth-grade student at SMAN 6 Jakarta with the initials NAEP, who died after falling when the motorcycle snagged a steel cable and was subsequently run over by a school bus in South Jakarta. The father is currently still receiving treatment in hospital.

“The witness, the motorcycle rider, is currently still being treated in hospital,” said South Jakarta Police Public Relations Head AKP Joko Adi in a statement on Tuesday (23/6/2026).

Joko confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Several witnesses have also been examined.

“Investigators from the South Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Accident Unit have sent a letter to request information on how a cable came to be there,” he said.

Joko stated that statements have so far been obtained from two witnesses. In addition to examining witnesses, police are also gathering evidence related to the case.

“The victim’s family witnesses have not yet been able to provide statements, likely because they are still in mourning,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Joko noted that the victim’s father, who is also a witness, is still unable to give a statement. He said the father still requires treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.

“The motorcycle rider witness is currently still being treated in hospital. The bus driver has been questioned, along with one other person who was inside the bus,” he stated.

Previously, a tenth-grade student at SMAN 6 Jakarta, NAEP, died after falling when the motorcycle snagged a steel cable and was run over by a school bus in South Jakarta. The victim was being taken to school by her father at the time.

“The incident occurred in the morning, around 5.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. A motorcycle carrying two people was travelling along Jalan Lauser. They happened to live in the Ciledug area and were taking the child to school,” said Kebayoran Baru Sub-district Head Rachmat Mulyadi, as quoted by Antara, on Thursday (18/6).

He said the accident happened when the motorcycle carrying the victim passed the location on Jalan Lauser, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. The motorcycle’s handlebars are suspected to have snagged a cable that was stretched across and protruding into the road, causing the vehicle to swerve and the riders to fall.

“When passing Jalan Lauser, right in front of a park, there was a cable stretched across, protruding slightly into the road, so the motorcycle’s handlebars got caught, causing it to swerve and fall. When it fell, the passenger died,” Rachmat explained.
