Father of Dr. Icha Kneels Before Regent, Pleads for Justice for His Daughter
The passing of Dr. Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as Dr. Icha, continues to leave a deep sorrow for her family. A poignant moment occurred when the Regent of Timor Tengah Utara, Yosep Falentinus Delasalle Kebo, visited the family home to offer his condolences on Saturday, 27 June 2026. In front of the mourners, her father, Gabriel Pakaenoni, could not hold back his tears. Amidst the grief, Gabriel knelt before the regent, pleading for justice for his daughter. “Mr. Regent, I beg your forgiveness. This is your child,” Gabriel wept as he embraced the regent.
Regent Yosep, who came to the house of mourning, expressed his condolences to Dr. Icha’s family. He also voiced his support for the family’s intention to pursue legal action. “We, the government, are deeply saddened by this incident. The regional government is ready to support any steps the family will take in seeking justice,” he stated. Regarding the alleged intimidation and bullying suspected to have been carried out by three members of the Timor Tengah Utara Regional House of Representatives, he has fully handed the case over to the police. Yosep hopes that law enforcement officials can investigate the case thoroughly and deliver justice for the victim and her family.
“Regarding the allegations against the three council members of intimidation causing severe trauma, we leave this to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this case, so that the fullest possible justice can be obtained for the family,” he said. The death of Dr. Icha is suspected to have been triggered by an act of intimidation while she was on duty at the Emergency Department of Leona Hospital in Kefamenanu, Timor Tengah Utara Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The incident began on Saturday, 13 June 2026, when a child patient, a victim of a snake bite, was referred to the Leona Hospital Emergency Department. At the time, Dr. Icha was the attending physician. According to the family’s account, the deceased had treated the patient according to hospital standard operating procedures and had consulted with a paediatric specialist. Based on the medical examination results, the patient was not yet recommended to receive a certain vaccine. Furthermore, the vaccine requested by the patient’s family was not available at the hospital.
