Father in East Manggarai Suspected of Killing Son Before Hanging Himself

A man with the initials YD (34) and his son, AD, were found dead in their home in Desa Golo Lero, Lamba Leda Timur District, East Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Initial police investigations suggest YD killed his child before ending his own life by hanging. “Two bodies were found inside the house, with one body hanging by a rope and the other lying on a bed,” said East Manggarai Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, First Inspector Ahmad Zacky Shodri, on Friday (12/6/2026). “It is suspected that victim 1 (YD), before hanging himself, first killed victim 2 (AD) by smothering his mouth and nose until the victim died, then victim 1 hanged himself,” he added. YD was found hanging from a beam spanning the ceiling of the house on Thursday (11/6). Meanwhile, AD’s body was found rigid on the bed, with fluid coming from the nose and foaming at the mouth, covered with a blanket. “At the crime scene, a box containing medical drugs and a 37-centimetre-long piece of wood near the window were found. The crime scene had been altered,” he continued. A medical examination of YD’s body revealed bruising on the neck below the rope mark, and semen was found on the victim’s trousers. “The victim died purely by hanging,” Zacky stated. Meanwhile, the post-mortem report on the child’s body found bruising on the right temple and foamy fluid from the nose. “The doctor’s diagnosis is that the victim died from oxygen deprivation. It is suspected the victim was smothered by victim 1 (YD) using his hands to cover the nose and mouth until the victim could not breathe and died,” Zacky explained. YD is believed to have killed his child and taken his own life due to depression. Zacky said YD and his wife had been living separately because of family problems. “The reason victim 1 (YD) hanged himself and ended his child’s life is suspected to be because the victim felt depressed over family problems,” Zacky disclosed.
