The holding of the marriage ceremony is a tangible form of the prison’s commitment to fulfilling the basic rights of inmates.

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Yogyakarta Class IIA Penitentiary facilitated a marriage ceremony for the daughter of an inmate as a means of upholding inmates’ rights to continue fulfilling their role within the family.

Marjiyanto, head of Yogyakarta Class IIA Penitentiary, said in Yogyakarta on Saturday that the facilitation of the ceremony reflected the prison’s commitment to fulfilling inmates’ basic rights, including carrying out their responsibilities as head of the family.

“The holding of this marriage ceremony is a tangible form of the prison’s commitment to fulfilling the basic rights of inmates,” said Marjiyanto.

The inmate, identified by the initials RAS, was given the opportunity to marry off his daughter in person despite serving his sentence. The marriage ceremony took place at the Al-Fajar mosque, located within the Yogyakarta Class IIA prison complex.

According to Marjiyanto, Yogyakarta prison supports the fulfilment of inmates’ basic rights as part of the services provided to every inmate.

“This service runs as it should; it is not something that requires special preparation or appears excessive,” he said.

“Yogyakarta prison is always ready to facilitate inmates’ basic rights and religious observances whenever needed, of course while continuing to comply with applicable security procedures,” said Marjiyanto.

He added that the couple and their families appeared joyful throughout the ceremony, which was held in a simple manner within the prison grounds.

According to him, the holding of the ceremony is proof that rehabilitation at Yogyakarta prison does not sever family bonds or a father’s social responsibilities.
