Father and Son Face Five Years in Prison Over Assault Case in Kapuk, West Jakarta

Dodo Siagian and Nasio Siagian, a father and son accused of assaulting their neighbours, a married couple named Darwin and Angel, in Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, face a potential five-year prison sentence.

Head of Public Relations at the West Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Wisnu Wirawan, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/2) that both are charged with multiple counts of assault for committing the crime together in public on Saturday (7/2).

“Both suspects are charged with multiple counts, firstly Article 262 of the Criminal Code and sub Article 466 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, which concerns joint violence,” he said.

He explained that after both were named as suspects, they were immediately summoned for questioning and the case file was registered with the court.

From the follow-up investigation, investigators concluded that all elements of the crime had been legally fulfilled.

“From the examination and the latest investigation, all elements of the crime have been met, and then another review was conducted. Only yesterday, on the 24th (February), the two perpetrators were detained,” said Wisnu.

Although the potential sentence is quite severe, Wisnu opened the possibility of the case being resolved through restorative justice.

“But, based on this new Criminal Procedure Law, it is not impossible to carry out ‘restorative justice’. However, it depends on the agreement between both parties,” he said.

However, while waiting for the possibility of mediation between the victims and the suspects, they will continue to proceed with the legal process according to procedure.

“The next step is to coordinate and hand over the suspect’s files and detention to the West Jakarta District Attorney’s Office,” he said. (Ant/P-3)
