The plan to take over Block 15 in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area has raised questions about the fate of Sultan Hotel employees and vendors who have relied on their livelihoods in the zone. In response, Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo, Director of the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), assured that the eviction execution process would still prioritise humanitarian aspects. He emphasised that the management of the area would continue professionally under state control, including attention to the continuity of affected workers. “We will carry out the eviction execution process by considering all aspects, including the sustainability of the fate of employees and vendors who have relied on their lives in Block 15,” he said in Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday (6/5/2026). “The state is present not to kill businesses, but to reorganise this asset so that its benefits can be felt inclusively by the public in accordance with the constitutional mandate,” he stated. As a form of commitment to the affected parties, the government through PPKGBK has also prepared a Service Post. The post is provided as a forum for communication and to clarify the status and fate of Sultan Hotel employees and vendors so that their future remains guaranteed in the transition process to new management. He added that the government would continue to embrace all affected parties so that the management transition process can run orderly and provide certainty. PPKGBK is committed to developing the area into a greener, more modern, organised, and productive zone. In addition, this step is also described as an effort to restore the state’s rights over unpaid royalties that have been unresolved for decades. With this takeover, the government hopes that Block 15 will not only become a strategically managed national asset but also provide greater benefits to the wider community. Meanwhile, State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi emphasised that the transfer of Sultan Hotel management is carried out by considering economic impacts. “We have communicated for some time with all employees and staff at Sultan Hotel,” said Prasetyo Hadi, quoted from the official Kemensesneg broadcast. Furthermore, he also assured that the takeover of Sultan Hotel management by the state is part of efforts to save and optimise the utilisation of state assets without stopping the economic pulse in the area. Subsequently, the asset will be managed by the public service agency (BLU) of the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg), the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPK GBK). “It is not closed, the management is transferred. Still,” said the State Secretary Minister.
