Bekasi, Kompas.com — Martin (45), a resident of Mustika Jaya subdistrict, Bekasi City, has suffered a tragic fate, losing his home after two houses and three rental units were destroyed in the SPBE Cimuning fire on Wednesday night (1/4/2026). Now, Martin and his family are forced to stay with neighbours because they no longer have a place to live. Before the fire, Martin relied on income from his several rental units. These units were occupied by various small businesses, ranging from shoe repair services, vegetable sellers, to nasi uduk stalls. Martin estimates the total losses he has suffered to reach billions of rupiah. In addition to the buildings, various valuable items were also destroyed, including important documents that are difficult to replace. “There has been no communication yet. Our hope is that we want assistance. Everything should be repaired again,” he said. Losing both a home and a source of income forces him to start from scratch amid uncertainty. “Now I’m confused about where to start again,” he said.
