Fate of Non-Civil Servant Teachers in Buleleng Uncertain, Can Only Teach Until End of 2026

The fate of 424 non-civil servant (non-ASN) teachers in Buleleng is on the brink. They are confirmed to be able to teach in public schools only until 31 December 2026. After that, their future is uncertain. “For now, they continue teaching until the end of 2026. After that, we are still awaiting central policy,” said the Head of the Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora) of Buleleng, Ida Bagus Surya Bharata, on Tuesday (5/5/2026). The uncertainty regarding the fate of these non-ASN teachers arose following Circular Letter (SE) No. 7 of 2026 from the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen). The circular limits non-ASN teachers in public schools to the end of next year. This means that, without further policy, hundreds of teachers in Buleleng could no longer teach in public schools starting in 2027. The Buleleng Regency government has not yet taken concrete steps regarding the fate of these hundreds of non-ASN teachers. An internal review has been prepared, but the final decision is still awaiting directions from the central government. “The circular is addressed to the regent. We have conducted an analysis, and it will be decided accordingly,” Surya stated. On the other hand, this situation also has the potential to impact school operations, given that hundreds of non-ASN teachers are still actively fulfilling teaching needs.
