Dadan Hindayana has been implicated in a corruption case and dismissed by President Prabowo Subianto from his position as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The fate of the electric motorcycles purchased by BGN during Dadan’s tenure has been called into question.

Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman has clarified the situation regarding the electric motorbikes. Dudung stated that the motorcycles procured under Dadan’s instruction have already been paid for, meaning they must remain as BGN assets.

According to Dudung, the current head of BGN, Nanik S Deyang, will consider how to utilise the electric motorcycle assets. Furthermore, President Prabowo could also decide to reallocate the motorcycles to other programmes according to the government’s needs, rather than limiting their use solely to BGN or the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

“Well, they have already been paid for, and they have already been assembled. The decision later will be up to the Head of BGN, or if, for example, there is a decision from the President to divert them wherever they are useful,” Dudung said at his office in Central Jakarta.

Initially, while still in office, Dadan had stated that the electric motorcycles would be designated for SPPG Heads or their operational needs. However, according to Dudung, SPPG Heads appear to already receive a substantial enough incentive to purchase their own operational vehicles.

“After all, the SPPG salary is decent, around six million (SPPG incentive of Rp 6 million). If they pay in instalments for one motorcycle, it is enough. In my opinion, there is no great need [to use the BGN electric motorcycles],” Dudung continued.

Dudung detailed that the number of electric motorcycles procured under Dadan’s orders reached 21,801 units with a total budget of Rp 1.03 trillion. The Attorney General’s Office, in cooperation with the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), later discovered that the budget had been marked up by Dadan.

“This total budget is Rp 1.03 trillion. Now, after checking, it turns out that as of 7 April, it was still being assembled. But this has already been paid for by the old official,” Dudung stated.

“And there is a discrepancy estimated at around Rp 200 billion. The BPK’s calculation differs at Rp 400 billion. Yes, there was a markup. Let’s hope the legal process is concluded swiftly,” Dudung explained.
