Fatayat NU Urges UNU to Probe Allegations of Sexual Violence by a UNU Lecturer
Leadership of Fatayat Nahdlatul Ulama’s Blitar branch has urged Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama (UNU) Blitar to take a firm stance in handling allegations of sexual violence by a UNU lecturer against several students. Fitria, the chair of the Fatayat NU Blitar Branch, said the campus must thoroughly investigate the case without discrimination, including if the perpetrator is a lecturer. She highlighted that the suspect is said to have contributed to the founding and development of UNU Blitar.
On Friday, 22 May 2026, Fitria said: “In the principle of justice and protection of victims, there should be no moral or institutional immunity for anyone, including those who have close structural ties, historical contributions, or influence on campus.”
Fitria disclosed that based on testimonies gathered by Fatayat NU Blitar from the victims, the acts of sexual violence included statements with sexual undertones and intimate jokes toward students in academic spaces that demeaned them. The alleged perpetrator is also said to have engaged in unconsented physical contact such as hugging, embracing, and touching students’ bodies. “These acts occurred within the power relationship between lecturer and student and have caused trauma, fear, and discomfort,” she said.
Moreover, Fatayat NU Blitar notes that the perpetrator abused the power dynamic by threatening victims regarding the scholarships they receive. All such acts were carried out repeatedly against more than one victim over several years.
Based on information and testimonies circulating among the student community, Fitria added, the perpetrator had previously been suspended due to a similar matter. However, he later returned to the campus and is suspected of repeating the same actions.
“In this context, we believe that the temporary suspension indicates that the campus does not have a strong commitment to preventing or addressing sexual violence at UNU Blitar,” she said.
On that basis, Fatayat urges the campus to thoroughly investigate this case and impose stringent sanctions on the alleged perpetrator for sexual violence and abuse of power, including permanent dismissal from the university environment.
Earlier, via an Instagram post on @unu_blitar on 18 May 2026, the university stated that UNU Blitar does not tolerate sexual violence in any form. The campus said it had temporarily suspended the lecturer suspected of sexual violence. “The policy provides for temporary suspension from all academic activities until a final legal decision is reached,” according to the rectorate of UNU Blitar.
