Fatal crash on the Indrapura–Kisaran Toll Road in North Sumatra; four dead
Traffic accident occurred on the Indrapura–Kisaran Toll Road, Km 134, Lane B, Batubara Regency, North Sumatra. A Toyota Innova collided with the rear of a box truck, causing four of its passengers to die and three others to be injured.
Batubara Police Public Relations Head AKP P. Tamba said the incident occurred on Friday (6 March) at around 09:00 WIB. The Innova, registration BK 1873 SX, driven by Opel Hutagalung, entered the toll road from Kisaran District, Asahan Regency, heading towards Medan.
‘The Toyota Innova entered the Indrapura–Kisaran Toll Road at Km 134, Lane B, Batubara Regency. At that time the truck was in the slow lane on the left. But the Innova, travelling at high speed, struck the rear of the truck,’ Tamba said on Sunday (8 March).
As a result, four people died, including Martua Siregar (48), Saiful Silitonga (40), Menten Tarigan (60), and Masnun Br Sihombing (70). Meanwhile, three other passengers including the driver were injured and were taken to Bidadari Batubara Hospital for medical treatment.
‘The victims have all been transported to Bidadari Batubara Hospital. The truck driver and one passenger are in good condition,’ he added.
The accident case is currently being handled by Batubara Police’s Traffic Unit (Satlantas). Police are still investigating to determine the exact cause of the crash, including gathering witness statements and inspecting the scene.
‘The exact cause is still under investigation by Satlantas,’ he said.
