Farmers receive rice seed donation

BANDUNG, West Java: About 4,500 farmers and peasants in 23
districts of Bandung regency have received a donation of 149 tons
of rice seeds from the local administration, said the director of
the local agriculture office, Sofyan Nataprawira, on Wednesday.

"Some 99.3 tons of the donation are funded by the state budget
while 75 tons are funded by the local budget," he explained.

Sofyan said his office had provided top grade rice seeds,
including seeds of the Ciherang, Cimelati, Towuti, Widas and IR
64 varieties.

He estimated that ricefields in the regency would produce
32,800 tons of rice in the next harvest. --Antara
