Farmers Protest Alleged Criminalisation at Central Java Police Headquarters

A number of farmers from the Kawulo Alit Mandiri Farmers Group held a protest march to the Central Java Police Headquarters in Semarang on Monday (3/8/2026). The action was carried out to show support for two farmers currently undergoing legal proceedings in a land dispute and to voice opposition to the alleged criminalisation of farmers in agrarian conflicts. The protesters demanded that the resolution of the agrarian conflict prioritise justice for the community, rather than pursuing criminal proceedings against farmers fighting for their land rights. The Legal Team of Suara Aksi (Solidarity for Democracy), acting as legal counsel for farmers Ropii (67) and Trisminah (45), urged the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Central Java Police to halt the investigation against the two individuals. The investigation stems from a report by PT Soekarli Nawaputra Plus regarding the alleged encroachment on approximately 16 hectares of land in Dayunan Hamlet, Kendal. The legal team considers the case a form of criminalisation against the two farmers, who are part of a group of around 152 farmers fighting for their land rights in the agrarian conflict.
