Farmer in Gedangsari Surprised That His One-Ton Cow Was Bought by Prabowo for Eid al-Adha Sacrifice
Residents of Kenteng, Ngalang, Gedangsari, did not expect that their cow would become the sacrificial animal for the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, in Gunungkidul Regency. The owner said that his cow, which weighed more than one ton, was sold for hundreds of millions of rupiah.
The owner of the cow that was bought by Prabowo, Sugeng Hadi Prayitno, said that initially, officers from the Agriculture and Food Service (KDPP) of Gunungkidul came to his place in early May 2026. The purpose of their visit was to see Sugeng’s cows to see if they met the criteria for the President’s sacrificial animal.
“Then I proposed two cows, each weighing 1,080 kilograms and the other weighing 1,025 kilograms. Both types of cows are Simmental,” he said to reporters in Kenteng, Ngalang, Gedangsari, Gunungkidul, Friday (15/5/2026).
It turned out that only one cow met the criteria and became the President’s sacrificial animal. As for the price of the cow, it reached hundreds of millions of rupiah.
“But of the two cows that I proposed, only one was selected, the one that weighed 1,080 kilograms. The price is around Rp 100 million,” he said.
Even though only one of his cows was selected as the President’s sacrificial animal, Sugeng still felt happy and surprised. Considering that this was the first time his cow had been selected as the President’s sacrificial animal.
“Of course, I was surprised and happy because the cow was bought by the President,” he said.
Sugeng continued, the cow that became Prabowo’s sacrificial animal had undergone weighing and health checks. Furthermore, on May 18, Sugeng will attend a meeting with the DIY Government along with farmers whose livestock were selected to become the President’s sacrificial animal.
“I have also collected photocopies of my ID card, tax identification number, and savings account number for the transaction completion process,” he said.
Regarding whether there is special care for the President’s sacrificial animal, Sugeng admitted that there is none. Given that all the cows that Sugeng raises are of the same type.
“There is no special care because I raise 20 cows of the Simmental type, so the care is the same for all,” he said.
As for where the President’s cow will be sent, Sugeng said he did not yet know. However, Sugeng ensured that the cow would be a sacrificial animal in Gunungkidul.
“As for which area, I don’t know yet, I’m still waiting. But for sure, the cow is for sacrifice in Gunungkidul,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Gunungkidul DPP, Raharjo Yuwono, said that in Gunungkidul, there was only one cow that became the President’s sacrificial animal. This number has decreased compared to last year, which reached three cows.
“For this year, there is only one cow belonging to a resident of Ngalang, Gedangsari,” he said.
