The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a farmer from Tigabinanga subdistrict, Karo regency, North Sumatra, has been resolved.

Sura Sitepu (59), previously reported missing by his family, was found dead, wrapped in a sack under a bridge in Deliserdang regency.

Karo Police Chief AKBP Pebriandi Haloho explained that the case began with a family report of losing contact with Sura Sitepu. The family had visited his residence, but the search yielded no results.

“On Wednesday night, 27 May 2026, at around 9pm WIB, the family, village officials, and Tigabinanga Police Station personnel forcibly entered the victim’s home in Kuala village, Tigabinanga subdistrict. However, the victim was not found there,” he stated on Saturday (30 May).

Following the report, police conducted an investigation and arrested a man identified as AK (25), a resident of Juhar subdistrict, on Thursday, 28 May 2026, at around 5pm WIB.

Initial interrogations revealed, according to Pebriandi, that AK admitted knowledge of the victim’s whereabouts and stated the act was carried out with an accomplice.

“We immediately followed up on this information by pursuing the other suspect and searching for the victim’s body,” he said.

Pebriandi added that Tigabinanga Police Station and Karo Police personnel proceeded to Medan city, where a man identified as R (20) was arrested in the Simalingkar B area, Tuntungan subdistrict of Medan, at around 11:30pm WIB.

“When apprehended, R was driving a white Mitsubishi Colt T120SS pickup truck suspected to be involved in the crime,” he said.

Based on the suspects’ statements, officers obtained information about the location where the victim’s body was dumped. The team then proceeded to under a bridge in Pancur Batu subdistrict, Deliserdang regency.

“On Friday, 29 May 2026, at around 12:10am WIB, officers discovered Sura Sitepu’s body wrapped in a plastic sack. Following identification by the Karo Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the victim was transported to Bhayangkara Hospital in Medan for autopsy,” he said.

Pebriandi stated that investigators are still probing the case, including uncovering the motive behind the suspected murder that killed the farmer.

“Both suspects have been detained and are currently undergoing intensive questioning at Karo Police Headquarters. The motive is still under further investigation. We are committed to thoroughly and transparently resolving this case,” he said.

In the investigation, police secured several items of evidence, including a white Mitsubishi Colt T120SS with registration number BK 8155 XS, a vehicle license plate, STNK in the victim’s name, the victim’s clothing, a brown bag, a red Oppo mobile phone, and the plastic sack used to wrap the body.
