Farid transferred to police cell

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Antigraft activist Farid Faqih, who is also a suspect in a theft case, was moved on Thursday from a hospital in Medan to a cell at the North Sumatra Police Headquarters in the city.

Farid, who was accused of stealing aid meant for tsunami victims in Aceh, will be kept under detention until his dossier is completed by Aceh Police investigators, who are handling the case.

Farid, the coordinator of Government Watch (GOWA), said that he no longer felt pain in his head and chest and was fit for trial. Farid was earlier transferred from Banda Aceh to Medan for medical treatment after he was beaten by military personnel, who accused him of stealing aid for tsunami victims on Jan. 26. -- JP
