Farid recalls Wednesday's assault

JAKARTA: Farid Faqih, the embattled antigraft activist, said on Sunday that when he was assaulted by eight to nine people on Wednesday, three or four of whom were Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel.

One of the TNI personnel involved was Capt. Suaib, Farid, the coordinator of Government Watch (GOWA) and who was in Banda Aceh, told the audience during a teleconference held in the Hotel Sahid, Jakarta.

During the teleconference, which was organized by the Bogor Agricultural Institute's (IPB) alumni association, Farid denied that he had stolen tsunami aid on Wednesday. He said that he was merely attempting to bring the aid to a dry place for fear that the aid, which was laid out on the tarmac of the Iskandar Muda air force base, would be soaked by the rain. -- detik
