BANDUNG – Indonesian President has instructed Bandung City Government and Husein Sastranegara Air Base management to reactivate Husein Sastranegara Airport for commercial flights. Current flights at the airport are limited to propeller aircraft after some services were relocated to Kertajati Airport.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan revealed that President Prabowo Subianto visited Bandung on 25 May 2026 and instructed relevant authorities to reactivate Husein Sastranegara Airport and Adisucipto Airport in Yogyakarta. He expressed enthusiasm for the airport’s reactivation.

“We are eagerly awaiting this reactivation, as Husein Airport has not been closed, but commercial flight operations have only been permitted for scheduled propeller aircraft operating between cities on Java,” Farhan said after Eid al-Adha prayers in Bandung on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

He stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and the Ministry of Defence (Kemenhan) to conduct studies on reactivating both airports. One study indicates that flight traffic in Bandung could rebound.

“We aim to restore Husein Airport’s former glory, which in 2019 handled 3.8 million passengers, including 3 million domestic and 800,000 international flights,” Farhan said.

He noted that the preparation for the airport’s reactivation is entirely the responsibility of the central government. Bandung City Government, he added, will improve road infrastructure such as the toll exit leading to Husein Airport via PT DI to make passenger access easier.

He assured that traffic flow in and out of Husein Sastranegara Airport would improve, with the Nurtanio flyover further facilitating access to the airport.
