Farhan: Persib's ACL Participation a Boost for Bandung's International Image
Bandung (ANTARA) – Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan views Persib’s participation in the AFC Champions League (ACL) Two 2026/2027 as an opportunity to enhance the city’s international image. “Why is it important for us to win and excel in Asia? Because of international exposure. If the international exposure is good, it becomes a foundation for city branding,” Farhan said in Bandung on Friday. He added that Persib’s participation in Asian competitions presents new challenges, particularly in upgrading the quality of Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium to meet AFC standards. “If playing in the ACL, Persib will be based in Bandung. This presents an opportunity for us to collectively learn to improve GBLA to meet international or AFC standards,” Farhan said. He acknowledged that upgrading stadium standards is no easy task. Past renovations of Si Jalak Harupat Stadium to meet AFC standards provided valuable lessons on the demands of international competitions. However, Farhan believes Persib’s Asian participation presents significant opportunities for Bandung to gain global attention. Farhan also linked these opportunities to plans to reactivate Husein Sastranegara International Airport. He is confident that the airport’s revival will further enhance Bandung’s appeal. “If city branding succeeds, especially with Husein Airport reactivated, it will be a complete package,” he said. Farhan hopes Persib’s ACL Two participation will become a source of pride for Bandung residents while boosting tourism, creative economy, and investment in the city.
