Faqih allowed to move to Medan

JAKARTA: Farid Faqih, a relief worker now in police custody for allegedly stealing an aid shipment in tsunami-stricken Aceh province, has been transferred to a hospital in Medan, North Sumatra, to get better medical treatment for injuries sustained in an assault by soldiers, his lawyer said on Saturday.

Lawyer Rufriadi said that Faqih, a coordinator of the non- governmental organization Government Watch, appointed to oversee relief operations in Aceh, was now being treated at Gleneagles Hospital, suffering from facial bruising and an inability to keep food down.

"A team of doctors expressed fear that something could happen to Faqih, so that more intensive checks were needed, especially for his head injuries," he said. -- Antara
