Family Values Key to Business Sustainability, Says DBS Insights Forum

Amidst growing global uncertainty, wealth management is no longer solely focused on asset growth, but also on creating meaningful long-term impact for families and society. More individuals and families are considering business sustainability, succession planning, and building a relevant legacy for the next generation. To address these needs, Bank DBS Indonesia held the DBS Insights Forum 2026: A New Lens on a Multipolar World, bringing together experts, industry players, and business leaders to discuss navigating global changes and balancing personal and family goals to create sustainable impact. A key topic was building a legacy with purposeful impact. In a session of the same name, DoctorTool CCO and Co-Founder Elisa Yoshigoe Wijaya shared her experience building a business that not only pursues growth but also addresses public health challenges in Indonesia. Elisa explained that she witnessed firsthand the healthcare access gap in Indonesia, from urban-rural disparities and uneven distribution of specialist doctors to the high administrative burden on health workers. ‘Health is the primary foundation that must be fulfilled before we can solve other social problems. Therefore, we co-founders are committed to tackling these healthcare sector challenges and access inequalities through technology optimisation,’ she said at the forum. Elisa noted that developing DoctorTool is an effort to create a legacy, but one that must be continuously developed. ‘One thing we realised is that if the second generation does not adopt AI or other transformative technologies, the business will struggle to expand sustainably,’ she explained. DoctorTool has developed an integrated electronic medical record system connected to BPJS and SATUSEHAT, allowing doctors to access patient histories faster, reduce queues, and speed up pharmacy services. The system also features AI Clinical Decision Support to assist doctors in clinical decision-making, including supporting early detection of stunting risk. The technology now operates in 37 provinces, reaching approximately 15 million healthcare recipients. Elisa acknowledged ongoing challenges in delivering the best service to the public, making collaboration essential to broaden their impact. ‘We want to embrace more partners from various affected communities. But most importantly, we want to emphasise that health is not a privilege, but a fundamental right for everyone,’ she stressed. DoctorTool’s efforts to create sustainable impact have been supported by the DBS Foundation. The company is a recipient of the DBS Foundation Business for Impact (BFI) Grant Program 2025, using the funds to strengthen AI development, technology infrastructure, and engineering team capacity to enhance the clinical decision support feature. In line with the importance of building cross-generational impact, Elisa shared that the most valuable legacy she received was not merely assets or a business, but the values instilled by her family. These values serve as a compass in decision-making, building innovation, and viewing challenges as opportunities to create greater impact. ‘Patience, perseverance, and discipline are the core values instilled by my mother. Meanwhile, from my father’s side, as an entrepreneur, he taught us to always see opportunities over risk constraints,’ she said. Head of Group Marketing and Communications at Bank DBS Indonesia, Mona Monika, explained that DoctorTool is an example of a business that creates social impact while possessing sustainable growth potential. ‘DoctorTool can create scalable and sustainable change. From a business perspective, there is also scale-up potential, because a social enterprise cannot deliver impact if the business itself is not sustainable,’ she noted. She also affirmed that Bank DBS Indonesia’s sustainability agenda aims to position the bank as a supporter of creating a better world. The bank is committed to promoting broader inclusivity by empowering impactful businesses to reach more segments of society. Through the DBS Foundation, this commitment provides solutions that benefit thousands of recipients across various regions in Indonesia. ‘We have work themes at the DBS Foundation, and our primary theme is providing essential needs, which includes health, education, and mental health. The second is fostering inclusion, from financial inclusion to digital inclusion,’ Mona explained. The DBS Foundation is currently opening opportunities for more social enterprises to join the DBS Foundation Business for Impact (BFI) Grant Programme 2026. With grants of up to SGD 250,000 per recipient, the foundation supports social enterprises with sustainable business models and a proven track record of measurable social impact.
