Family reports stray shooting

JAKARTA: A family reported the shooting of 14-year-old Yuli Anggraini by a stray bullet on March 14, to the National Police internal affairs at the headquarters on Monday.

Father Nurcholish and Yuli's older sister, Mawar Krisnawati, were accompanied by three lawyers from the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute (PBHI); Basir Bahuga, Leonard Sitompul and David Oliver Sitorus when they met with Comr. A. Lutfi.

The family also handed over a projectile and six of Yuli's teeth as evidence. Yuli is under intensive treatment at the Mitra Keluarga Hospital in East Jakarta.

Nucholish claimed that he had reported the shooting to the Ciracas subprecinct and the city Police but had no response.

Mawar, an eyewitness during the shooting, said her sister was hit by the bullet in the mouth when a police officer fired to stop a brawl at the Gebras area in Ciracas, East Jakarta. She claimed the shooter was wearing a brown uniform and a black vest. -- JP
