Family of YTR Reacts After Taufik Hidayat's Arrest, Sends Sharp Message to Bandung Captor
The arrest of Taufik Hidayat, the man who confined and abused YTR for years, has drawn various reactions from the victim’s family. After a long period of anxiety and waiting during the search for the perpetrator, the family could finally breathe a sigh of relief after police secured the suspect on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
Several family members who had been actively updating the public on YTR’s condition via social media did not hide their feelings. Posts that appeared shortly after news of Taufik Hidayat’s arrest spread quickly gained public attention and were flooded with comments from netizens.
One of the most discussed reactions came from Sandy, YTR’s older brother. In a post reshared by Erni, a family member known to be the victim’s aunt, Sandy expressed gratitude after the perpetrator was caught. ‘Alhamdulillah, the police have caught the idiot (perpetrator). Permission from the Indonesian people, no need for permission from his parents, because his parents have surrendered him to be dealt with however, they are free. I want to take his eyes for my younger sibling so they can see again,’ Sandy said in Sundanese.
The post immediately drew public attention because it showed the emotion the family felt after seeing YTR’s condition, which included serious damage to their eyesight. As is known, YTR was found in a distressing state with impaired vision to the point of blindness, in addition to injuries on other parts of the body. Therefore, Sandy’s statement was seen as an outpouring of grief and anger over what happened to their younger sibling.
Before uploading Sandy’s video, Erni, the victim’s aunt, also posted an emotional message after news of the perpetrator’s arrest broke. In her post, Erni alluded to her nephew’s condition, who is still undergoing recovery due to suspected torture experienced over the years. ‘Vita, if only you could see the bastard who hurt you, with his devilish face he looks calm, without sin, a real psychopath,’ she stated in the photo caption. Erni has been one of the most active family members in providing information to the public regarding YTR’s health progress. She also frequently shares moments when the victim is undergoing treatment and being accompanied by family.
