The family of the late Private ABS, a member of the Army’s 804/Cenderawasih Task Force Battalion, has asked the South Tangerang Police to thoroughly investigate the mob beating that killed the victim in a transparent and just manner.

Irwan, a family representative, speaking in Tangerang on Saturday, said the victim’s parents hope investigators at the South Tangerang Police will handle the case openly until it is fully resolved in accordance with the law.

“Our hope is to ask for assistance so that the legal process is truly resolved fairly,” he said.

Irwan explained that the family first received the news of the death through a report sent to the office where the victim’s parents work, before obtaining further information from the police.

He stressed that the family hopes the judicial process will proceed according to prevailing regulations without disregarding the facts of the case.

In addition, the family plans to provide additional information to investigators, which they believe could support the investigation.

“During the investigation process I will come again because there are several matters I want to convey to the investigators regarding things that are still lacking,” said Irwan.

Previously, the South Tangerang Police revealed the motive behind the mob beating that resulted in the death of the Army soldier with the initials ABS (21) in the Kelapa Dua area of Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Sunday (19/7).

Chief of Criminal Investigation at South Tangerang Police, Adjunct Police Commissioner Wira Graha Setiawan, said the investigation showed the incident was triggered by a dispute over a queue at a sate taichan stall.

“The incident began with a scuffle over the sate taichan queue, after which the perpetrators’ group and the victim became involved in an altercation that ended in the beating of the victim,” he said.

Police have named seven people as suspects. Based on witness examinations and CCTV footage, the suspects played different roles, ranging from chasing, beating, stealing the victim’s mobile phone, to carrying out the stabbing.

The suspects have been charged under layered articles, namely Article 458 of the Criminal Code on murder, Article 262 paragraph (4), and/or Article 466 paragraph (3) on assault, carrying a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or 20 years in prison.
