Family of Kramat Jati accident victim urges DKI to firmly reorganise market
The father of a student who died after being run over by a rubbish truck in the Kramat Jati area of East Jakarta, accompanied by his legal team, visited City Hall to demand firmness from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in reorganising the area.
Eri Yusnovi (49), father of the victim named Hammamshidqi, accompanied by his legal team, visited Jakarta City Hall on Friday morning to deliver a letter to DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and ask the government to seriously fix the area according to its function, so that similar accidents do not happen again.
“From my observation, from the first day of the incident until now there has been no firm action on the ground. The road is still slippery, there are people falling even though it is not as bad as what happened to my child,” said Eri Yusnovi at City Hall on Friday.
During the visit to City Hall, Eri and his legal counsel handed over a letter to a representative of DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
He hopes that going forward the Jakarta Government can demonstrate its seriousness in reorganising the area.
Eri recounted that the location of the accident that killed his son is an overflowing market dominated by sellers of fish and other marine products. Spills of fish waste and marine commodities along the road make the road slippery.
According to Eri, there has been communication between the family and the Jakarta Environmental Agency, the sub-district office, and East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin. However, he said this tragedy is not merely about condolences and social responsibility.
“What the Satpol PP has done is only push back the traders’ stalls and instruct them not to dump waste on the road. For me, that is not the point. The road condition is slippery. It should be firmer, the road area is not for trading,” said Eri.
On the same occasion, the family’s legal counsel, Odie Hudiyanto, stressed that the family has no intention of asking for money because compensation has already been provided through Jasa Raharja and Baznas (Bazis).
“We are only asking for state responsibility. So if asked what form it takes, of course it is material and immaterial. Please let the Jakarta Provincial Government understand how much is appropriate for the victim because a life of course has no value,” said Odie.
