Family of Doctor Icha Reports to Police, Hopes for End to Intimidation of Healthcare Workers
The parents of the late Doctor Eliza Princila Utama Pakaenoni, known as Doctor Icha, hope there will be no more intimidation or verbal and physical violence against healthcare workers carrying out their duties. This was conveyed by Gabriel Pakaenoni, the father, through family representative Viktor Manbait, after reporting the alleged intimidation and verbal abuse experienced by Doctor Icha to the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police on Friday (3/7). “With this report, it is hoped that there will be no more torture and intimidation of healthcare workers, whether verbal or physical, in health facilities,” said Viktor Manbait while accompanying the late doctor’s parents to report the case at the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police on Friday (3/7). Both parents, Gabriel Pakaenoni and Nur Azizah, along with Doctor Icha’s two younger sisters, Tiara Pakaenoni and Elyn Pakaenoni, reported the alleged intimidation to fulfil the mandate of the late Doctor Icha. Viktor added that the police report was made by the family with the hope of protecting all healthcare workers providing services in health facilities. “Her father, mother, and two younger sisters, Tiara and Elyn, came together to the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police to carry out the late Doctor Icha’s mandate to protect healthcare workers providing services in health facilities where she experienced torture and intimidation,” he said. He revealed that following an investigation into the intimidation case, four individuals have been reported, all of whom are public officials. They consist of three members of the North Central Timor Regency (TTU) Regional House of Representatives and a civil servant veterinarian from the TTU Livestock Service. The three TTU DPRD members are Therezius Lazakar (Golkar), Robert Tubani (PKB), and Veronika Lake (PDIP), while the civil servant from the TTU Livestock Service is veterinarian Maria Mathildis Sau. Meanwhile, the Deputy Director for the Protection of Women and Children and the Eradication of Trafficking in Persons, AKBP Samuel Simbolon, explained that the suspected perpetrators will still undergo investigation and inquiry. “We will continue to investigate; based on the progress of the investigation and inquiry, the suspects will be examined along with witnesses and evidence found around the emergency room,” said Samuel. Based on CNN Indonesia’s observation, the family arrived at the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police headquarters at 11:20 WITA and went directly to the Integrated Police Service Centre room to submit the report. Seven family members came to report, including the late doctor’s parents, Gabriel Pakaenoni and Nur Azizah, and her two younger sisters, Tiara Maharani Dwi Pakaenoni and Elyn Pakaenoni. The victim’s sister, Elyn Pakaenoni, accompanied by both parents, was also seen carrying a framed photo of Doctor Icha. They immediately entered the SPKT room to submit the official report. The Deputy Director of PPA and PPO at the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, AKBP Samuel Simbolon, was also seen arriving and entering the SPKT room. The family finished giving their report at 15:30 WITA. They then exited the SPKT and left the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police headquarters. Doctor Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, or Doctor Icha, was previously found dead at her home in the Baumata Housing Complex, West Baumata Village, Taebenu District, Kupang Regency, on Friday afternoon (26/6) in an apparent suicide. Doctor Icha is believed to have taken her own life after suffering severe depression and psychological distress following intimidation by three members of the North Central Timor Regency (TTU) Regional House of Representatives on 13 June 2026 while treating a patient bitten by a snake in the Emergency Unit of Leona Kefamenanu Hospital. The three TTU DPRD members suspected of intimidating Doctor Icha are Therezius Lazakar (Golkar), Robert Tubani (PKB), and Veronika Lake (PDIP). The snakebite victim, whose life was successfully saved, is reportedly a relative of one of the DPRD members, Therezius Lazakar, who participated in the intimidation of Doctor Icha. Doctor Icha’s body was buried on Monday (29/6) and was attended by thousands of mourners.
